Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before requesting a vehicle appraisal in Ontario.

General

What is Get Appraisal?
Get Appraisal is an online vehicle appraisal service serving drivers across Ontario. We prepare independent appraisal reports for registration/ownership transfer, insurance, diminished value, and pre-purchase/trade-in purposes — completed remotely from the vehicle details and photos you submit.
Do I need to bring my vehicle in for an in-person inspection?
In almost all cases, no. Our process is built around photos and information you submit online. A small number of Ministry of Finance-related registration appraisals can require an in-person step — see our MTO appraisal page for details, and we'll always confirm this with you before you pay.
What areas of Ontario do you serve?
All of Ontario. See our Areas We Serve page — and if your city or town isn't listed, that's fine, our process works the same everywhere.

Pricing & Payment

How much does an appraisal cost?
Pricing depends on the service and your vehicle's complexity — see our full pricing table. Standard passenger vehicle appraisals start from $69, depending on service type.
How do I pay?
Once your quote is confirmed, we'll send a payment request by email. Payment is currently handled manually (e-transfer / invoice); online checkout at the time of booking is coming soon.
Do you offer refunds?
If we determine before starting your appraisal that we can't complete it (for example, it requires an in-person inspection we can't arrange), we won't charge you. See our Terms of Service for full details.

The Appraisal Process

What photos do I need to submit?
Generally: all four exterior angles, the interior and odometer, the VIN plate, and any damage or modifications up close. See the full checklist on our How It Works page.
How long does it take to get my report?
Most standard appraisals are completed within 1-2 business days of us receiving complete information and photos. Rush service is available for most services.
What does the final report look like?
You'll receive a written PDF report documenting the vehicle's details, the information reviewed, our methodology, and the final appraised value — formatted for the purpose you requested it for.
Can you appraise a vehicle I haven't purchased yet?
Yes — that's exactly what our pre-purchase appraisal is for.

Specific Situations

I'm receiving a car as a gift from a family member — do I need an appraisal?
Sometimes. It depends on the relationship and the vehicle. See our MTO / Service Ontario appraisal page for when an independent appraisal applies to gift transfers.
My car was in an accident and repaired — can I get compensated for its lost value?
An appraisal can document the value your vehicle lost, but Ontario's insurance rules limit when that loss can actually be recovered. See our diminished value appraisal page for the full picture, and consider speaking with your broker or a lawyer about your specific claim.
I'm insuring a classic or modified car — what do I need?
Most specialty insurers offering agreed-value coverage want independent documentation of the vehicle's value. Our insurance appraisal service is built for exactly this.
